Henri Matisse Goldfish
November 2016
Henri Matisse is one of my favorite artists because I love his use of color!! Kindergartners learned about Henri Matisse's still life paintings---he loved to paint goldfish! To create our still lifes, we learned how to mix a tint, which is a light color. We then talked about the difference between shapes and forms. Shapes are flat, and forms are 3D. The form we drew was a cylinder for the fish bowl. The final touch was to add the bowl on a table, draw our fish, and add some fun patterns with oil pastels!

Pumpkin Patch Paintings
October 2016
Kindergartners have learned about color! We read the fun story, Mouse Paint, and discussed how to create new colors. Kindergartners learned the proper techniques of painting and how to use oil pastels! We learned about the difference between Primary and Secondary colors. Students actually mixed all three colors on their paintings, making orange, green, and purple paint.

Kindergarten Hands
September 2016
My little artists have just learned the basics in art---lines! We can say and create vertical, horizontal, diagonal, spiral, wavy, broken, scalloped, and zigzag lines! Students used their lines to help them design their own hand print paintings! The final touch was a splash of colorful paint!

The Rainbow Fish
February 2016
For our unit 3 lesson, Kindergartners were introduced to various watercolor techniques using cool colors, and we used the printmaking method called Stamping! Students will be able to stamp to create their bubbles and their fish scales! Our inspiration for this artwork comes from the book, The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, and each student created their very own fish by combining different lines and shapes. The final touch was adding the exciting, shiny scales, just like in the story!

Clay Medallions!
January 2016
Kindergartners were so excited for their first sculpture! This was the first time most students had ever touched clay, and what an exciting, fun experience it was!! The clay's texture starts with a squishy, wet feeling. Students carved their very own design into the clay while it was wet. After it dried, we were able to paint the clay and add beads and string to wear it!
Snowmen at Night
December 2015
Winter has arrived! Our inspiration for this lesson comes from literature. I love the story Snowmen at Night by Carolyn Buehner because it has the most beautiful painted illustrations! Students will discuss what it means to be an illustrator, and we will learn all kinds of different spacial words in art, such as, above, below, background, near, far, and horizon line. Then, we are going to paint our own renditions of snowmen at night, using tempura paints and oil pastels!

Mehndi Hand Design
September 2015
Kindergartners have just completed their artworks for our art fundraiser. We viewed and discussed Indian Mehndi Hand art, and it's cultural significance. We analyzed the intricate patterns using lines and shapes, as well as some elements of nature. Kindergarteners learned how to draw and name various lines and geometric shapes that is used within their artwork! The final touch was to add a splash of colorful paint!!

Welcome to Kindergarten!
August 2015
For the first two weeks, Kindergartners are learning rules and safety procedures in the Art Room. We have read the story, "The Dot," and we discussed how you can start by painting something simple (like a dot), and see where it takes you!! When the paintings are complete, we will glue them onto a "gold" frame and learn how to write our very first artist's signature!! Check out some beauties below!
