The Scream!!
October 2016
Students have learned about the exciting artist, Edvard Munch. We analyzed his most well-known painting called "The Scream." We discussed various color schemes, like, WARM, COOL, and NEUTRAL, as well as how to show depth/distance in a drawing. Students created their own versions of "The Scream," using chalk pastels, and they added their own personal twist to their portrait...

Third graders learned about the American, Pop Artist, Wayne Thiebaud. He is most recognized for his realistic dessert paintings! Students learned how to draw a dessert to look real, too--by drawing a form and a shadow. Watercolor paint can be really tricky, and I am so proud of how patient and talented the third graders are with paint!! The results are simply delicious looking!!
Ted Harrison Landscapes
March 2016
For our painting unit, we were inspired by the amazing paintings of the artist, Ted Harrison. Ted Harrison's brightly colored and imaginative paintings set in the Yukon have become synonymous with the North. His distinctive images of the land hang in galleries around the world. Students recreated his painting style with a focus perspective: foreground, middle ground, and background. We also mixed a variety of colors, emphasizing on tints and shades.

Howard Finster Self-Portraits
January 2016
Third grade students have learned about the Folk Artist, Howard Finster. Howard Finster spent most of his life living here in Georgia! His artwork is unique because he writes his thoughts and ideas directly on his paintings. He even has an ongoing exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta! We are recreating his unique art style and making our own self-portraits. For information about his exhibit in Atlanta, you can go to this website: https://www.high.org/Art/Exhibitions/Howard-Finster.aspx

Welcome to 3rd Grade!
August 2015
For the first two weeks of school, students are reviewing rules and safety procedures in the art room. We are creating our first "miniature" artwork, which will turn into a large mural! All students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are drawing a self-portrait with 1 different color scheme for each grade level. Put them all together, and you have one, GIANT, rainbow mural!!
